When is it time? Using a Tampon
Now that summer is here, this is a good opportunity to talk to your daughter about using a tampon so she stays confident and comfortable with being active during her period. Tampons can make the summer days easier, especially if she likes to swim.
Start by having a casual chat with her about tampons. If both of you think it is time for her to start using them then look for a product that is designed for a young teen. These tampons are much more slender.
Open a tampon and explain how to insert it. For young girls, it might be helpful to put a small dab of lubricating jelly on the inserting end of the tampon. In your conversation, also talk about how to remove the tampon and its proper disposal.
I always encourage moms to explain that once the tampon is in place inside the vagina, it cannot go anywhere else in the body. A great way to demonstrate this is to place a tampon in a small amount of water. You both will be amazed how much it expands. She will be convinced that the tampon will stay put!
Here is a short, wonderful video to support you in deciding if your daughter is ready to use a tampon from Kids In The House.
