I’m a Boy, Hormones!

I’m a Boy, Hormones! is for boys ages 11 and up who are in puberty. Most boys in this age group will want to read the book on their own.

I’m a Boy, My Changing Body

Your son is starting to notice changes in his body and you see him growing up before your eyes.

This is the first of two books that talk about puberty. It is written for 8- 10 year old boys who are just entering puberty.

The storyline in this book is a continuation from the first book in the series, I’m a Boy, Special Me. Now the three boys are a little older and Dr. M uses colorful and accurate illustrations to teach them about the physical changes they can expect in the next few years as they enter puberty.

Dr. M helps the boys understand that puberty is a special time of transition in their life and the changes they will notice are experienced by all young boys.

The content of the book is supported by Interactive Questions and Exercises as well as a useful Help for Parents section. We also provide a Parent Q & A for parents of children in this age group.

What Our Readers Say…

5.0 out of 5 stars opened up opportunities for further discussion about puberty,
Georgann Ross via Amazon
I have used all of Dr. Metten’s other books with my daughter and my son. As my son turned 10, I utilized this book to educate him about the upcoming changes he might expect with puberty a few years down the road, and to reinforce the correct terminology for body parts. My son was very curious and asked a lot of questions about the material in the book, which I felt was very positive, as it opened up opportunities for us to further discussions about different aspects of puberty and growing up. The storyline is great, too, striking the balance between science and entertainment while always being accurate.

I’m a Boy, Special Me

This is the first book in the I’m a Boy Series.

This invaluable, age-appropriate resource is for you to begin the discussion with your young son about his boy anatomy. The theme, “where babies come from” is developed through a fun storyline that includes Dr. M and three young boys your son’s age.

Dr. M educates the boys using beautifully illustrated drawings and simple explanations. This book will be of particular interest to a young boy whose mother is pregnant or has recently given birth.

I’m a Boy, Special Me is intended to be read by a parent and a child together. Parents are supported by additional resources including Interactive Questions and Exercises from the book, and a Help for Parents section to enhance the learning experience. There are commonly asked Questions and Answers for parents of children in this age group on the website as well.

It is important that our young sons are educated about their body as they begin to mature. After reading this book, your son will have learned the basic structures and concepts of his boy anatomy and you will have begun an evolving discussion with him that will be a treasure for both of you.

What Our Readers Say…

5.0 out of 5 stars Well written, age appropriate.
Marina Oros via Amazon

I have this book for my 7 year old son and it is such a great book for boys to have. All body parts are referred to by their proper name and the illustrations are anatomically correct so that kids don’t get confused.

The book explains just enough information to answer questions but doesn’t overwhelm them with more information than they “need” to know at this age and it’s written for them to understand what they are reading. The author, Dr. M, also has a website to accompany the books for kids to play activities and a community page for parents. You can tell that there was a lot of thought put into these books as they are well written and incredibly useful, my son loves it. He has read it quite a few times and pretty soon, my youngest will be getting his turn with the book.

I have tried 2 other books but they were too long and a bit confusing, I wasn’t very impressed with the style in which they were written. I also felt like other books I’ve considered buying were too generalized and didn’t focus on different age groups and that is very important because kids at different ages are learning different things and something that a 7 year old needs to know about his body isn’t the same thing that a 15 year old needs to know. Anatomy for Kids breaks it down really well.
